Comparison against Intel
We've also ran the same test suite on some Intel processors, but the test beds have varied so greatly you should take these comparison scores with a grain of salt.
Setups that we used for each of the CPU familiesAMD
- Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70
- Processor: AMD Phenom 2 X4 965BE C3
- CPU Cooler: Zalman 1X Extreme
- Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-2000 2*2 GB (CL9)
- Graphics: ATI Radeon HD4870
- Power supply: SilverStone DA-700
- Motherboard: Asus P5Q-VM (G45)
- Processor: Intel C2Q9450
- Memory: G.Skill DDR2-800 2*2 GB
- Graphics: Sapphire Ati Radeon HD4870
- Power supply: Silverstone DA-700
- Processor: Intel Core i5 750 and Intel Core i7 870
- Cooling: Thermalright MUX 120
- Motherboard: MSI P55-GD80
- Memory: 4GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR3-2000 F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH 9-9-9-27
- Video: Sapphire HD4870 512MB
- Power Supply: Corsair TX750W

The i7 870 tops the charts on both 3dmarks, but that's hardly a surprise seeing it costs three times more than the Phenom 965BE. In Vantage the quad core intels do very well, at stock speeds only the C2Q losing to the top of the range Phenom. In the old 3dmark it's a whole another game with the Q9450 taking the last place and even the i5 750 having a hard time with the AMDs.
